Outlining
Kiara has been working on a research paper for several weeks now for her Composition class. She has selected a topic, collected research, and even prepared an annotated bibliography. She is eager to start drafting her essay, but she has learned that she must prepare an outline first. Kiara is a little concerned because, while she thinks that she has plenty of content, she is not sure how to organize it in an outline format. This video demonstrates how she ultimately organized her outline. Note that you may need to scroll both horizontally and vertically to view the whole page.
This image shows the elements of a basic outline and why Kiara included these specific points. Keep in mind that you will need to follow the specific outline format of your instructor.
Next Steps
Before finally moving onto drafting, Kiara reviews her writing journal to see if she's left anything out. Check out the Journaling page to learn more about this important prewriting technique.
